Pondering over the behavior of light, Einstein made a startling discovery; that the velocity of light is a cosmic speed limit. A speed that nothing in the universe can exceed.
(But how he actually found it out, will be saved for another blog)
The Problem:
As light does not travel instantaneously; if fact, taking 8 minutes to reach the Earth from the Sun, and having shown nothing not even gravity can travel faster than light, how could the Earth go out of orbit, even before darkness of Sun reaches it?
The Solution:
The Three Dimensions of space and one dimension of time, congregate the space-time fabric. The presence of Sun, creates this fabric to be spread throughout the solar system and the planets lie on the fabric in curves, giving rise to gravity.
When the Sun disappears, it sends a gravitational wave disturbance, just like ripples formed in water when a pebble is dropped. Einstein's calculation showed that these ripples of gravity travel exactly at the speed of light.
Thus the new presentable picture of Gravity:
It is warps and curves in the fabric of space and time.
Newton's Explanation of gravity
According to Issac Newton, renowned physicist of the Seventeenth Century, gravity is only the measure of the amount of force the heavenly bodies would exhibit on each other but could not explain the prime cause and the way gravity acts. He predicted, in case of a cosmic catastrophe, for instance, the sun vaporizes and disappears; the other planets would shoot tangentially off their orbits. Conclusively, Gravity acts instantaneously across any distance and the effect of such a cosmic catastrophe would be felt immediately on Earth.
But will that be so??
But will that be so??
